Reflection Question #1

According to Mircea Eliade religion has "not vanished without a trace; [it] has contributed toward making us what we are today and so, after all, [it] forms part of our own history". In what ways has religion contributed toward your personal history?

Religion has been contributed to my due to my family's Catholic beliefs. My moral code began centered around Catholic beliefs and it as continued to grow as I have. If it weren't for religion I would be a completely different person. A lot of my young life was a propitiation to my parents and the God my parents told me to believe in. Although as I grew up, religion seemed less charismatic to me and I began to think more secular. This may be due to the fact that as people grow up they desire independence, but I'm not completely sure. It still has some influence on my life, especially when I see my mother praying with beads in her hand, or when I occasionally go to church, and I capriciously do the liturgy when a person moves their hand to symbolize a cross, but the influence is beginning to fade.
